The Black Bear Tavern in Black Mountain

The food came while we sat outside by the park. Omelette was delicious and home fries perfect. A lovely place for breakfast.

This restaurant is my favored. I eat in plenty of restaurants but to this place I constantly return again and again. The crew is very affectionate and the cooking they offer is so delicious. I would always prefer to have a good dinner in this restaurant. I highly recommend this place.

We had such a lovely breakfast. Kami was an amazing and helpful server she gave us great tips on the area and she also helped us get that last minute breakfast order so we could have the best time in Black Mountain! The food was delicious! I highly recommend their gravy it’s absolutely magical. And their pancakes are great too I got blueberry and P con :-) she also makes an amazing Kahlúa Bailey’s coffee!

Great food and service. Super friendly atmosphere. My 10 year old daughter is a super picky eater. Nearly cleaned her plate and declared that they were the best pancakes she’d ever eaten. This was our 2nd trip to this restaurant, once with just my husband and today with our three kids. Both times were great experiences. We highly recommend!

Was told with a party of our size (9) people, that our breakfast may come out in stages because the griddle was small.... ok no problem. Rgw waitress gasped that she had to refill coffee so fast (was only a 3/4 cup to begin with). My father who loves sausage gravy biscuits, would not touch these, only ate his potatoes. When I complained that he did not like them. The waitress said, that because he ate his potatoes they could not credit back any of the meal, my mother had the oatmeal Which tasted like it had been in a cardboard box for years, also would not take it back. No one really enjoyed the food. Not even my 4yr old nephew would eat his pancakes. All in all not a pleasant experience. I am Black Mountain native and I try to support local businesses. But this one is one I will not be supporting. I can not endorse this restaurant. Very pricey, no customer service.

I had my first and last experience at Black Bear Tavern today. When I politely asked the owner, Lisa, if she had a table that was not in the middle of the room, she very rudely and loudly chastised me with "No. It's only going to get louder and busier, so I don't know what to tell you." When I then inquired about pushing two empty tables together in the far back corner, to accommodate my request (the paying customer...), she further snapped "No. It would be too crowded there". That was not at all truthful, helpful, professional or kind. Paying for mediocre pillsbury biscuits, mushy potatoes, burnt bacon, and boring eggs with a side of rudeness and unnecessary attitude from the owner just earned Black Beard my first review ever. You're welcome.

Sunday breakfast was great. Sausage gravy biscuits were delicious. Staff was very attentive. The outdoor patio dining is fantastic. Very pet friendly. My dog felt like she was the center of attention.

The food was good. I think the service was pretty slow. The main reason for 3 instead of 4 stars is cost. Breakfast for 1 with a coffee was $19 with tip. While I don't want to say the food was bad, I always thought breakfast should be far less expensive.

This is a cozy spot. The food is pretty decent and reasonably priced. I recommend it.

Cannot say enough how lovely this little Tavern is! Feels just like home, complete with a toasty fireplace and grandfather clock. The food was incredible! Sweet and friendly staff. Wish it was in my neighborhood and we could visit more often!

Great breakfest! Exciting eggs and the biscuits were soft and buttery! The only problem was the table next to us, obsessively chastising the waiters about how they didn't get to sit where they wanted to on a busy Sunday along with the fact that they have some sort of pepper allergy. Word of advice people, if you're that needy, just stay home! Service is excellent and will most defintely be coming back!

I told my friends about this place with my highest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The dishes they serve are great and the stuff is generous and cooperative. Every time we visit this place we pass a cheerful time. highly recommended.

This is one of the best places I have ever eaten! I got the Creamy Shrimp Scampi and it was delicious. I definitely recommend! 5 star service. Lisa is the most personable server ever! I enjoyed her and her funny comments and side talk is hilarious. Give her a raise! :)

The staff here are extremely nice and the food is to die for. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The first time was so good we wanted to come back the next morning for more! 10 out of 10 I definitely reccomend!! Try the big bear breakfast you won't be disappointed!!

We like to AirBnB to the mountains every year for a get away, and we always make time to stop here for breakfast. The food has never disappointed and the service has always been great. I recommend the big bear breakfast and the fresh OJ.

My husband and I were visiting the area for the weekend and had plans to go to another place for breakfast. That place was too busy, so I quickly pulled up a map to pick another place close by. Black Bear Tavern was on the list, so I chose it and we were so glad we found it. We sat on the outside patio with our coffee and meal and enjoyed the quiet. Food was delicious, coffee was hot and the service was great. We decided to go back the next morning again because we loved the place so much!

We also liked that it was located in a much more peaceful place than Asheville, so you could hear birds signing, enjoy your conversation and coffee 😉

Nice atmosphere w/ fireplace. Service great. Menu limited but decent. Fries great. Chili excellent. Burger decent. A bit small and bun too big. Portions small. Quality good.

My girlfriend and I stopped here for breakfast recently while on vacation. Fantastic food and fantastic service. The chocolate muffins were my favorite part of our meal. I will eat here again the next time I'm in the area.

Stopped by this place for lunch while in town on business. Really glad I did! Service was extremely fast and food way above what I expecting. Hope to bring my wife next time!

Good food, friendly staff, nice ambience and terrific scenery

We arrived at black bear tavern with a party of ten and the staff refused to seat all of us together. They logic why was baffling and made no sense. There was a section that could accommodate 12 additinal people but they refused to allow us to put tables together. I asked the staff that if that section were to fill how many waiters would work the section. The answer was one. I inquired, what is the difference between separate tables with 10 people verses 1 table. They simply told me that is the way it is. Another one of the staff then got snippy with us and asked twice "do you want a table" regardless of the actual questions we were asking. They refused to take our business. They willingly refused easily and $100 bill plus tip. Makes no sense. We took our business to honest meats foothills resturant that easily accommodated all of us. I would recommend not visiting black bear tavern if you have a large party.

The staff here was the best service I've had in a good long while. If you're ever in the area this is a stop you have to make. On top of everything, the food was incredible and delectable!

Fun place and great comfort food!

Refused to seat a party of ten even though they had ample room. They said the waitress would be overwhelmed. Never saw such a bad business decision in my life. Will never go back. How do you refuse business because you don’t want to accommodate a family on vacation!! Dumb- founded. They had three tables with customers ... the rest of the place was empty!! This is pure craziness!!! Wow after reading several other reviews this sounds like a common practice.. refusing to accommodate paying customers and over all rudeness!! Wish I could give a negative star rating

Wow, just wow! Boy can they cook! This place was amazing!! The ambiance is stunning, with a country feel and the place was spotless. We stopped in on our way back to Mooresville from Bryson County and I'm soooo glad we did. All of our food was cooked perfectly to order, with the freshest ingredients, and absolutely delicious!

We visited Black Mountain in late October 2019 and this gem was located at the base of our mountain. The food was cooked to perfection; the pancakes were the best we’ve ever had. We ate breakfast there every day. Service was great. We will visit again next time we are in the area.

This place has some good food but the service is noticably slow and scarce although friendly but the lack of speed stood out as my overall impression. We went for breakfast at around ten am and our group of 6 ordered several dishes that included their family grits but only one at our table got it because she was the first of us to order it. The waitress said she got the last of it available. She also said they run out all the time. If you're going through your grits all the time shouldn't the amount you're making be increased to meet the demand? The food we did get instead was ok but not memorable. The atmosphere is nice, the bathrooms are clean. Lots of parking.

The breakfast food was absolutely delicious. No complaints there! The service was good, fast and very friendly. I've never been during lunch or dinner hours, so don't know if it's different at that time. Yes, it may be more pricey, but its definitely delicious and not for people accustomed to a cheap breakfast diner or McDonald's. Also, I found the service to be extremely prompt and friendly. I'm sure the people complaining here are annoying, arrogant, demeaning tourist (probably northerns or Floridians) that think since they're on vacation all the locals must bend over backwards for them.

Absolutely a spot worth trying, the food is excellent and fresh, the costs are fair and it is constantly neat there. Great work.

Delicious, good price for the food we enjoyed, the service is top-notch, and the outdoor seating under the tree canopy is downright magical!
